How about taking in a show at The Village Players on Upton Avenue between Central and Monroe Streets? This all volunteer group is having an outstanding season! There was a packed house for a rollicking comedy called "The Cemetery Club" in September, 2017 followed by two dramas -- "Betrayal" and "Annapurna." Spring brings a couple more comedys - Neil Simon's "Chapter Two" and "Cyrano" in May, 2018.
Want to show your own acting flair? Auditions are all "cold reads" meaning no preparation is needed. Many scripts are available from the Toledo-Lucas County Library. Just to go www.thevillageplayers.org website and check on the Auditions tab to add your name and contact information to the notification list.
The Village After Dark productions are "concert readings" - meaning limited staging. Actors have scripts in hand and will present the show in the most raw and true form. Adult ticket prices to the plays are $16 and a season subscription is only $60!
The Village Players incorporated in 1956, started by a group of affluent men and women from Ottawa Hills. Their first shows were presented in a tent at Ottawa Park. As they grew, they purchased the current location on Upton (formerly a small church) in the 1960's. They turned the chapel into their theater. The theater seats only 190 people, making it an intimate and friendly place. The Village is currently working at expanding parking and their lobby.
